What to understand about this treatment
The peripheral nervous system
These are the nerves that extend outside the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. Motor nerves carry impulses to muscles to move them; sensory nerves carry pain, temperature, and pressure information back to the brain.
How nerves heal
After a repair, the fibers of the nerve begin to regrow across the repair site over a period of about three to four weeks. Precise microsurgical technique gives them the best chance.
Recognizing a soft-tissue injury
Swelling, redness, bruising, stiffness, pain, and loss of control or function are all signs that soft tissue may need evaluation.
