Douglas Chin, M.D., F.A.C.S., C.A.Q.H.

Hand & Upper-Extremity Surgeon | Board-Certified in Plastic Surgery, C.A.Q. Surgery of the Hand

Dr. Douglas Chin is one of the few hand surgeons in the country devoted to hand reconstruction, leading a multidisciplinary practice focused on the functional and aesthetic reconstruction of the hands and upper extremities. His special interest is injuries and diseases involving the bones, joints, nerves, tendons, and soft tissues.

A graduate of Harvard College, Dr. Chin began his medical career as an immunologist at the National Institutes of Health, then earned both his medical and graduate degrees through a joint program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School. He completed general surgery training at New York University and Bellevue Hospital, a plastic surgery residency at the NYU Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, and subspecialty fellowship training in Microsurgery and Hand & Upper Extremity Reconstruction at UCLA, where he also served as a Clinical Instructor.

He trained in General Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Microsurgery, which lets him approach a difficult upper-extremity problem from several vantage points at once and draw techniques from each field.

Dr. Chin serves as consultant surgeon to members of the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet, the Golden State Warriors, and the Oakland Police and Fire Department. His knowledge and experience are shared across more than 50 scientific and medical publications and lectures.
